FROM THE COUNTRY, FOR THE COUNTRY

OUR STORY

A country shed
that grew a shop.

Started in 2003 on a Queensland property, The Western Attic still packs every order by hand — leather, hide and horse gear chosen the way we'd choose it for ourselves.

How it started

It began with one repaired stock saddle and a box of belts sold at a local campdraft. Word got around that the leather held up, and the box turned into a trailer, then a shopfront, then a website customers across every state now order from.

Twenty-three years on, the buying rules haven't changed. We handle the hides ourselves, photograph the exact piece you'll receive, and stock only what we would happily use on our own horses, in our own homes.

The attic is still small enough that a note in the order box gets read by the person who packed it.

WHAT WE STAND ON

01

Hide before hype

We buy on feel and finish. If the leather cracks in the hand it never reaches the shelf.

02

What you see, you get

Cowhide is one of a kind, so each listing shows the actual piece we post to you.

03

Built for the paddock

Rugs, halters and belts tested on our own horses through wet seasons and dust.

04

A real person replies

Sizing, colours, a hide match or a photo – ask and you will hear back from us, not a bot.

“I still open every bale of hides myself. If a piece isn't good enough to sit in my own lounge room, it doesn't go on the site.”
